Apple and White Cheddar Tart Recipe

Rebecca
When I first made the apple and white cheddar tart, I couldn’t help but marvel at how something so simple could taste so refined. The combination of buttery puff pastry, sweet apples, and sharp cheddar cheese was a match made in culinary heaven.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • Puff pastry 1 sheet, thawed
  • White cheddar cheese ½ cup, grated
  • Apple 1 large, thinly sliced; Gala or Honeycrisp work best
  • Honey 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh thyme a few sprigs, leaves only

Instructions

  • Start by preheating your oven to 400°F. Take your thawed puff pastry and roll it out neatly onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Leave about an inch around the edges, which will puff up beautifully as it bakes. This border keeps everything tidy and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Evenly sprinkle freshly grated white cheddar across the pastry, staying within the border you left earlier. The sharpness of the cheddar adds a delightful contrast to the sweetness of the apples. Grating it yourself ensures even melting and the freshest flavor.
  • Arrange your thinly sliced apples over the cheese in an overlapping pattern. Whether you create rows, spirals, or a fan shape, this is your chance to get artistic. The visual appeal of this step is one of the tart’s highlights!
  • Place the tart in the oven and bake it for 20-25 minutes. You’ll know it’s ready when the crust is golden and the apples have softened to perfection. Keep an eye on it during the final few minutes to make sure it doesn’t over-brown.
  • Drizzle the finished tart with honey for a touch of sweetness. Then sprinkle fresh thyme leaves on top for a burst of herby flavor. Slice it into portions and serve immediately while it’s warm.

Notes

  • Thaw the Puff Pastry Properly: If rushed, it can get sticky. Overnight thawing in the fridge works best.
  • Choose Fresh Ingredients: Fresh apples, good-quality cheddar, and flavorful honey make all the difference.
  • Slice Apples Thinly: Thin, even slices not only cook evenly but also give a polished, elegant look.
  • Get Creative: Experiment with different ways to arrange the apple slices for an eye-catching presentation.
