Rebecca
When I first made these Asian Steak Bites, I couldn’t believe how simple they were to create yet so packed with flavor. The blend of tender steak with rich, bold, and sweet-salty Asian-inspired flavors was heavenly.

Ingredients

  • Steak sirloin, tenderloin, or ribeye
  • Soy sauce
  • Hoisin sauce
  • Fresh ginger
  • Garlic cloves
  • Brown sugar
  • Sesame oil
  • Rice vinegar
  • Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  • The key step to flavoring these steak bites is a well-balanced marinade. Combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, freshly grated ginger, minced garlic, brown sugar, sesame oil, and rice vinegar in a mixing bowl. Whisk until the marinade is smooth and fragrant. Place the steak pieces in a resealable bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Seal or cover tightly and allow it to marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  • After marinating, heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade, letting the excess drip off. Reserve the marinade—we’re not done with it yet! Sear the steak in the hot skillet for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they’re cooked to your preferred level of doneness. Once done, transfer the steak to a cutting board and let it rest for a few minutes.
  • Time to utilize that reserved marinade. Pour it into a small saucepan and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Stir occasionally and cook until the marinade thickens into a shiny glaze. This step enhances the dish with a deeply concentrated flavor.
  • Slice your perfectly rested steak into bite-sized pieces. Arrange them on a serving platter, then generously drizzle the glaze over them. Finish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and freshly chopped green onions for a burst of freshness and texture. Voilà! 🥢

Notes

  • Don’t skip the resting time: It allows the steak juices to redistribute, ensuring a tender bite every time.
  • Slice against the grain: Cutting the steak this way keeps the bites tender and easy to chew.
  • Use fresh ingredients for the marinade, especially ginger and garlic, to maximize the flavors.
  • Control the salt by tasting as you go. Soy sauce can already be salty, so balance accordingly.
