Best Maryland Crab Dip Recipe

I have to say, this Maryland Crab Dip is THE appetizer that never lets me down. I made this last weekend for a small gathering, and it disappeared almost as soon as it hit the table. The creamy texture, the bold flavors of Old Bay seasoning, and that unmistakable sweetness of fresh crab are just irresistible.
Prep Time 10 minutes mins
Cook Time 25 minutes mins
Total Time 35 minutes mins
- 1 pound fresh Maryland blue crab meat
- 8 ounces cream cheese softened
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese divided
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Start by gathering all your ingredients. Make sure the crab meat is fresh and free of shells. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) if you plan to bake the dip.
In a large mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream. Mix until the texture is smooth and creamy. Add in the Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and Old Bay seasoning for that authentic Maryland flavor.
Gently fold the crab meat into the cream mixture. Sprinkle half the cheddar cheese into the mix and save the rest for topping. Be careful not to overmix, as you don’t want to break up the crab meat too much!
Spread the mixture into a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese over the top, ensuring an even layer.
Place the dish in the preheated oven, and bake for about 20–25 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve it warm with crackers, bread, or veggies. It’s an instant hit!
- Pair the dip with crusty baguette slices, sturdy crackers, or warm pretzel bites for a hearty appetizer.
- Garnish with fresh parsley or additional Old Bay seasoning for a pop of color and flavor.
- Serve in a decorative or cast-iron dish to keep it warm and add visual appeal.
