Cheddar Jalapeno Soft Pretzels Recipe

When I first made these cheddar jalapeño soft pretzels, I couldn’t believe how quickly they became a family favorite. Warm, soft, and spiced with just the right amount of jalapeño kick, they’re perfect for cozy evenings or casual gatherings.

Ingredients
  

  • Flour
  • Yeast
  • Salt
  • Cheddar cheese shredded
  • Jalapeños finely chopped

  • Mix the flour, yeast, and salt in a large bowl. Slowly add warm water, blending until it forms a dough. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until it’s soft, smooth, and stretchy.
  • Now the fun part! Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese and finely chopped jalapeños. Make sure they are evenly spread throughout the dough for cheesy, spicy goodness in every bite.
  • Divide the dough into equal portions. Roll each portion into a rope and twist it into the classic pretzel shape. Don’t worry if they’re not perfect! They’ll taste amazing regardless.
  • Boil a pot of water and add a few tablespoons of baking soda. This step gives the pretzels their chewy, golden crust! Briefly dip each pretzel in the boiling solution for about 30 seconds, then transfer them onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Sprinkle extra cheese or jalapeños on top of the pretzels for added flavor and presentation. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until they’re golden brown and irresistible.
  • Once they’re out of the oven, brush them with melted butter for a perfect glossy finish. Serve warm with your favorite dips, and watch them disappear!

Notes

  • Use warm, not hot, water when activating the yeast. Too much heat can kill the yeast, and your dough won’t rise.
  • Shred your own cheese for the best melt and flavor. Pre-shredded cheese often contains anti-caking agents that affect texture.
  • Don’t skip the baking soda bath! That’s the secret to soft pretzels with a chewy crust.
  • Want crisper pretzels? Leave them in the oven for an extra 1–2 minutes.
