Ingredients

  • 2-3 lbs pork ribs baby back or spare
  • 1 ½ cups barbecue sauce
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika optional
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prep the Ribs: Remove the membrane, rinse, and pat dry. Cut into sections if needed.
  • Season: Mix dry spices and rub generously over ribs. Let sit for 1-2 hours if time allows.
  • Load the Crockpot: Place ribs with the meat side facing outward. Pour 1 cup of BBQ sauce over the top.
  • Slow Cook: Cover and cook on low (6-8 hours) or high (4-5 hours) until tender.
  • Optional Broil: Transfer to a baking sheet, brush with extra BBQ sauce, and broil for 5 minutes for a caramelized finish.

Notes

  1. Choose the Right Ribs: Baby back ribs are leaner and cook faster, while spare ribs are meatier with a richer flavor. Both work well, so go with your preference.
  2. Don't Skip the Rub: The dry rub is the backbone of the dish, adding depth to every bite. Be generous when applying it!
  3. Layer Flavors: Don't rely solely on barbecue sauce for flavor. A combination of rubs, sauces, and optional liquid smoke will take your ribs to the next level.
  4. Use a Liner: If you want a hassle-free cleanup, consider using a crockpot liner. It prevents sauce splatter and makes washing up easier.
