Gingerbread Trifle
Rebecca
I couldn’t resist sharing this gingerbread trifle recipe with you! When I first made it, my kitchen was filled with the comforting aroma of warm spices like cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. It felt like a Christmas miracle in dessert form!

Total Time 55 minutes mins
- Gingerbread cake - 1 pound
- Vanilla custard - 2 cups
- Whipped cream - 2 cups
- Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Nutmeg - 1/2 teaspoon
- Crushed pecans optional - 1/4 cup
- Seasonal fruits optional for layering - 1 cup
Bake your gingerbread cake following your chosen recipe or use store-bought cake to save time. Once baked, allow it to cool completely. Then, cut it into small cubes to make layering easier.
For the custard, prepare a smooth, luscious mix by whisking it thoroughly to avoid lumps. If you're short on time, ready-made custard works just fine. Next, whip the cream until it forms soft peaks, sweetening it slightly with powdered sugar and vanilla extract to enhance the flavor.
Now comes the fun part! Start with a layer of gingerbread cubes at the bottom of your trifle dish. Add a thick layer of custard, followed by whipped cream. Repeat the layers until you reach the top. For a festive touch, dust cinnamon over the top layer or garnish with crushed pecans, caramel drizzle, or a sprinkle of edible glitter!
Refrigerate the layered trifle for at least 3-4 hours, or overnight if possible. This resting period allows the flavors to meld beautifully. When you're ready, serve it in clear individual glasses or scoop it directly from the dish.
- Ensure Everything is Cold: Whipped cream holds its peaks better if the cream, bowl, and whisk are cold. Chill them briefly before starting.
- Sweetness Adjustment: If you prefer a less sweet dessert, reduce the sugar in the custard or cream layers.
- Layer with Care: For clean layers, use gentle pressure when spreading each one.
- Store with Care: Cover the dish tightly with cling film to prevent refrigerator odors from seeping into your dessert.
