Ingredients

  • Ground beef
  • Vegetable oil
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Tomatoes
  • Frozen peas
  • Carrots
  • Bell peppers
  • Cilantro
  • Cumin seeds
  • Ground coriander
  • Ground cumin
  • Turmeric powder
  • Red chili powder
  • Garam masala
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Ground cardamom
  • Salt

Instructions

  • Before you start cooking, mix all your spices in a small bowl, including cumin seeds, coriander, turmeric, and more. This ensures the flavors combine beautifully and saves you time during cooking.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and allow them to sizzle for a few seconds. Then toss in the chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent. Don’t rush this step; caramelized onions provide depth to the dish. Add garlic and ginger and cook until fragrant (about 1 minute).
  • Now add the ground beef, breaking it into small pieces with a spatula. Cook until browned and no longer pink. Stir occasionally to ensure it cooks evenly.
  • Once the beef is cooked, toss in the chopped tomatoes and your pre-prepared spice mix. Stir everything together and cook for 5-7 minutes until the tomatoes break down and coat the meat in a flavorful sauce.
  • Add frozen peas, diced carrots, and optional bell peppers. Mix everything well. Cover the pan and reduce the heat to low. Allow it to simmer for 15-20 minutes. This is where the magic happens as the spices meld together.
  • Before serving, check for seasoning and add salt or chili powder as needed. Garnish generously with fresh cilantro, and your Ground Beef Curry is ready to enjoy!

Notes

  • Use Fresh Spices: If possible, use freshly ground spices for maximum flavor.
  • Don’t Overcrowd the pan while cooking the beef, as it prevents it from browning properly.
  • Adjust Consistency to your preference. Add a splash of water or broth for a saucier curry or cook longer for a drier dish.
  • Taste Along the Way to ensure the balance of spices is right for your palate.
