Hobo Foil Packets Recipe
Rebecca
When I first tried making Hobo Foil Packets, I was amazed by how simple and satisfying it was. There’s something delightful about wrapping fresh ingredients in aluminum foil and letting your grill or campfire do all the work.
Prep Time 15 minutes mins
Cook Time 20 minutes mins
Total Time 35 minutes mins
- Chicken beef, shrimp, sausage, or tofu
- Potatoes bell peppers, onions, zucchini
- Olive oil or butter
- Garlic cloves
- Thyme rosemary, paprika, or seasonings of your choice
- Salt and pepper
Start by washing and chopping your veggies into even, bite-sized chunks. This ensures they cook at the same rate. For proteins, cut them into pieces as well for faster cooking.
Mince a few garlic cloves and mix them with olive oil or melted butter. Stir in your chosen herbs and spices for a dynamic flavor boost.
Lay out medium-sized sheets of aluminum foil. Add your protein first, then arrange the veggies around it. Drizzle the garlic and oil mixture over everything. Sprinkle salt and pepper on top, then tightly seal the packet by folding the edges. Double-wrap if you’re worried about leaks!
Place the foil packets on a preheated grill or over a campfire. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through. If you’re using the oven, bake at 400°F (200°C) for 25-30 minutes.
Carefully open the foil (watch out for steam!) and dig into your delicious, perfectly cooked meal.
- Don’t Overcrowd: Avoid overstuffing the foil packets, as this might cause uneven cooking. If needed, divide the ingredients into smaller portions.
- Uniform Chopping: Cut veggies and proteins into similar sizes so they cook evenly.
- Use Fresh Herbs: If available, fresh herbs like rosemary and thyme provide a more vibrant flavor boost.
- Double-Layer Foil: This ensures that no juices or seasoning escape while cooking.
