Ice Cream Float

Ice Cream Float Recipe

Rebecca
The first time I made an ice cream float, I remember feeling a bit like a kid in a candy store. Something about the fizzy soda meeting the creamy, dreamy ice cream brought magic to the kitchen.
Total Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1-2 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 1 can 12 oz soda of your choice (e.g., Fanta, Coke, Sprite, or Root Beer)

Instructions

  • Start by popping your desired glass into the freezer for 5 minutes. Why? A chilled glass prevents your ice cream from melting too quickly and keeps your drink refreshingly cold. This small step makes a big difference in both texture and taste.
  • Now that your glass is ready, pour your chosen soda about 3/4 of the way full. Go slow to avoid too much foam. Remember, soda adds the signature fizz, so choose a flavor you love, whether it’s cola, orange soda, or classic root beer.
  • Gently place 1-2 scoops of ice cream into the soda-filled glass. You’ll notice the fizz intensify as the ice cream meets the soda. Adding the soda first ensures minimal spills and controlled fizz.
  • If you’re experimenting with syrups like cherry or caramel, mix 1 tablespoon of syrup with a little soda first before combining everything. This creates a well-blended flavor base for your float.
  • For the final touch, you can add a swirl of whipped cream on top, along with a maraschino cherry or candy straw. Whether you keep it minimal or go all out, serve the float immediately to enjoy the refreshing blend of textures and flavors.

Notes

  • Quality counts: Use high-quality vanilla ice cream for the creamiest float experience.
  • Go easy on the fizz: Pour soda till it’s just about right, avoiding overflows by adding ice cream gently.
  • Experiment with syrups: Mixing syrups like rose or butterscotch in smaller batches helped me discover new favorite combinations.
  • Serve quick: Don’t delay once your float is ready; the fun is in the fresh fizz.
  • Play with visual details: I’ve found adding edible glitter or a cherry on top really enhances the appeal, especially for guests.
