Ingredients

  • 1 round bread loaf sourdough or Italian
  • Assorted cured meats e.g., salami, prosciutto, pepperoni
  • Assorted cheeses e.g., cheddar, mozzarella, brie
  • ½ cup butter
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh rosemary chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Preheating ensures even cooking, so your bread turns out warm and perfectly gooey every time.
  • Take your loaf of bread and place it on a cutting board. Using a serrated knife, make diagonal cuts across the loaf, about an inch apart, being careful not to cut all the way through. Rotate the loaf and repeat the process to create a grid pattern.
  • Now comes the fun part! Tuck slices of cured meats and cheese into the cuts, alternating them to pack each piece with variety. If some pieces are sticking out, that’s fine – those edges will crisp up beautifully in the oven.
  • Melt the butter in a small saucepan or a microwave-safe bowl. Mix in minced garlic, fresh parsley, rosemary, thyme, a pinch of salt, and black pepper. This buttery blend will elevate the flavors to the next level.
  • Place the stuffed loaf on a large sheet of aluminum foil. Drizzle the herb butter evenly over the top, making sure to get into all the nooks and crannies. Wrap the bread securely in the foil to trap all the moisture while it bakes.
  • Transfer the foil-wrapped bread onto a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes. If you’d like the top crispy and golden, peel back the foil for the last 5 minutes.
  • Once baked to perfection, take the bread out of the oven and carefully unwrap it. Place it on a serving platter or wooden board. Gather everyone around and start pulling apart those cheesy, savory bites. It’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser!

Notes

  • Use Fresh Bread: Choose a loaf that’s soft and not overly crusty. It makes pulling apart easier and more enjoyable.
  • Room-Temperature Ingredients: Take the meats and cheeses out of the fridge ahead of time so they melt evenly.
  • Drizzle Butter Generously: Focus on getting that garlic-herb butter into every nook of the bread for even flavor.
  • Crispy Edges: Uncover the bread for the last five minutes to get that irresistible golden top layer.
