Rebecca
When I first tried making Stromboli at home, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But the results? Absolutely amazing. Imagine the perfect combination of crispy golden crust enveloping layers of ooey-gooey cheese, savory meats, and flavorful veggies.

Ingredients

  • Pizza dough 1 pound
  • Marinara sauce ½ cup
  • Mozzarella cheese shredded (2 cups)
  • Pepperoni slices 20–25 slices
  • Salami slices 10–12 slices
  • Thinly sliced bell peppers ½ cup
  • Thinly sliced red onions ¼ cup
  • Dried oregano 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder ½ teaspoon
  • Olive oil 1 tablespoon

Instructions

  • Start by preheating your oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly flour your surface to prevent sticking, then roll out the pizza dough into a rectangular shape, roughly 12x16 inches. The rectangle doesn't need to be perfect, but the even size ensures easy rolling later.
  • Spread a layer of marinara sauce evenly over the rolled dough, leaving a small edge around the perimeter. Now, layer on your fillings! Start with mozzarella cheese, followed by pepperoni, salami, bell peppers, red onions, and any additional toppings you love. For extra flavor, sprinkle dried oregano and garlic powder over the top.
  • Carefully roll the dough from one of the long sides, keeping it tight as you go (like rolling a jellyroll). Pinch the edges of the dough to seal in the filling, then fold the ends under for a tidy finish. Place the Stromboli seam-side down onto a lined baking sheet.
  • Brush the top of your Stromboli with olive oil to help it achieve that gorgeous golden brown crust. Use a knife to make a few small slits on the top to allow steam to escape while baking. Pop it in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until it’s beautifully golden and crisp.
  • Once your Stromboli is baked to perfection, allow it to cool for about 5 minutes before slicing into thick pieces. This helps the filling set and makes cutting easier. Slice, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Keep the dough at room temperature before rolling to make it easier to work with.
  • Don’t overfill your Stromboli; too many toppings can make it tricky to roll and seal.
  • For a crispier crust, use a pizza stone or preheated baking sheet.
  • Make small, evenly spaced slits on top of the Stromboli to allow steam to escape during baking.
