Easy Air Fryer Egg on Toast

Ingredients You Will Need

To make this delicious breakfast you will only need a few basic items that are likely already sitting in your kitchen right now.

  • 1 large fresh egg at room temperature
  • 1 thick slice of bread like sourdough or brioche or whole wheat
  • 1 teaspoon of butter or margarine spread
  • 1 pinch of sea salt for flavor
  • 1 pinch of black pepper for a little kick
  • 1 tablespoon of shredded cheese like cheddar or mozzarella
  • 1 teaspoon of fresh parsley or chives for a green garnish

Step by Step Method

Follow these simple instructions to get the best results from your air fryer every time you cook.

First you need to take your slice of bread and use the back of a large spoon to press down into the center of the bread. You want to create a nice deep well or a little hole in the middle without pushing all the way through to the bottom. This little nest is where the egg will sit so it does not slide off the bread while it is cooking inside the machine.

Next take your butter or margarine and spread it lightly around the edges of the bread that were not pushed down. This helps the crust get extra crispy and gives it a wonderful golden brown color that looks very professional.

Now carefully place the prepared bread into the air fryer basket. It is usually best to put the bread in first before you add the egg so you do not spill anything while moving the basket around.

Take your fresh egg and crack it gently into the center of the hole you made in the bread. If some of the egg white spills over the side do not worry because it will still cook perfectly and taste just as good.

If you like cheese you can sprinkle your shredded cheddar or mozzarella around the edges of the egg white now. The cheese will melt and become bubbly and slightly brown which adds a lot of flavor to the final dish.

Slide the basket back into the air fryer and set the temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. You should set the timer for about 6 to 8 minutes depending on how you like your eggs cooked.

If you prefer a very runny yolk then 6 minutes is usually enough time for the whites to set while the center stays liquid. If you like a firm egg then you should leave it in for the full 8 minutes or even 9 minutes if the bread is very thick.

When the timer goes off carefully open the basket and use a spatula to lift the toast out onto a plate. Be careful because the bread will be very hot and the steam can burn your fingers if you are not cautious.

Finish the dish by sprinkling your salt and black pepper over the top of the egg. Add your fresh parsley or chives to give it a pop of color and a fresh taste that balances out the richness of the yolk and butter.
