Stuffed Twisted Bread (Savory & Cheesy)

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ยฝ cup cheddar cheese (optional for stronger flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese or mayonnaise (for creaminess)

  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley or oregano

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Equipment

Step 1: Activate Yeast

  1. Mix warm water/milk + sugar + yeast.
  2. Let sit for 5โ€“10 minutes until foamy.

Step 2: Make Dough

  1. In a bowl, combine flour and salt.
  2. Add:
    • Yeast mixture
    • Oil or butter
  3. Mix into a soft dough.

Step 3: Knead

  • Knead for 8โ€“10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Dough should be soft and slightly tacky.

Step 4: First Rise

  • Cover and let rise for 1โ€“1ยฝ hours until doubled.

Step 5: Prepare Filling

In a bowl mix:

  • Garlic powder
  • Chili flakes
  • Herbs

Set aside.


Step 6: Roll & Fill

  1. Roll dough into a large rectangle (about 12ร—16 inches).
  2. Spread cheese mixture evenly over half or all of the dough.
  3. Press lightly so it sticks.

Step 7: Create the Twist

  1. Fold dough over filling (like a sandwich) OR keep flat if preferred layered.
  2. Cut into strips (about 1โ€“1.5 inches wide).
  3. Take each strip and twist gently.
  4. Place twists side-by-side on a baking tray, forming a loaf shape or braid pattern.

Step 8: Second Rise

  • Cover and let rest for 20โ€“30 minutes until slightly puffy.

Step 9: Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).
  2. Bake for 25โ€“30 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.

Step 10: Garlic Butter Finish

Mix:

  • Melted butter
  • Garlic
  • Parsley

Brush over hot bread immediately after baking.

Optional: sprinkle Parmesan on top.
