Rebecca
If you're craving a dish that's both sweet and spicy, these Asian Zing Meatballs are a must-try. I recently whipped them up for dinner, and they were an instant hit! The combination of tender meatballs coated in a flavorful glaze, served over jasmine rice with crisp vegetables, made for a delightful meal.
Prep Time 10 minutes mins
Cook Time 20 minutes mins
- 1 pound lean ground beef or turkey
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon sriracha or preferred hot sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons stir-fry sauce e.g., Gyoza dipping sauce or General Tso’s sauce
- 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 2 cloves garlic minced
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, sriracha, honey, soy sauce, chopped red onion, red pepper flakes, and minced garlic. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.
Using your hands or a scoop, shape the mixture into uniform meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a plate or tray, ready for cooking.
Stovetop Method: Heat a tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes.
Slow Cooker Method: Place the meatballs in the slow cooker. In a separate bowl, mix the stir-fry sauce with a bit of water or broth to thin it slightly, then pour over the meatballs. Cook on low for 2-3 hours until the meatballs are tender and infused with flavor.
Once cooked, serve the meatballs over a bed of jasmine rice or noodles, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for added flavor and presentation.
-
Uniform Size: Ensure meatballs are of equal size for even cooking.
-
Don't Overmix: Mix ingredients until just combined to keep meatballs tender.
-
Adjust Sauce Consistency: If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of water or broth.
-
Taste Test: Cook a small piece of the mixture to test seasoning before forming all meatballs.
-
Storage: Leftover meatballs can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
