Rebecca
If you're craving a dish that's both sweet and spicy, these Asian Zing Meatballs are a must-try. I recently whipped them up for dinner, and they were an instant hit! The combination of tender meatballs coated in a flavorful glaze, served over jasmine rice with crisp vegetables, made for a delightful meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef or turkey
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha or preferred hot sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons stir-fry sauce e.g., Gyoza dipping sauce or General Tso’s sauce
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 cloves garlic minced

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, sriracha, honey, soy sauce, chopped red onion, red pepper flakes, and minced garlic. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  • Using your hands or a scoop, shape the mixture into uniform meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a plate or tray, ready for cooking.
  • Stovetop Method: Heat a tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes.
  • Slow Cooker Method: Place the meatballs in the slow cooker. In a separate bowl, mix the stir-fry sauce with a bit of water or broth to thin it slightly, then pour over the meatballs. Cook on low for 2-3 hours until the meatballs are tender and infused with flavor.
  • Once cooked, serve the meatballs over a bed of jasmine rice or noodles, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for added flavor and presentation.

Notes

  • Uniform Size: Ensure meatballs are of equal size for even cooking.
  • Don't Overmix: Mix ingredients until just combined to keep meatballs tender.
  • Adjust Sauce Consistency: If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of water or broth.
  • Taste Test: Cook a small piece of the mixture to test seasoning before forming all meatballs.
  • Storage: Leftover meatballs can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
