Ingredients
For the tea:
- 4 cups (1 liter) water
- ½ cup dried hibiscus flowers
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tsp whole cloves
- 2 bay leaves
- ½ orange, sliced
- 1–2 tsp fresh ginger, sliced
- 1–2 tsp honey or sweetener, optional
- 1 tsp lemon juice, optional
For the protein:
- 1 scoop (20–25 g) unflavored or vanilla whey protein isolate
or - 1 scoop collagen peptides
Instructions
- Boil the water:
Add 4 cups of water to a saucepan and bring to a boil. - Add the spices:
Add hibiscus flowers, cinnamon sticks, cloves, bay leaves, orange slices, and ginger. - Simmer:
Reduce the heat and simmer gently for 10–15 minutes. - Strain:
Remove from the heat and strain the tea through a fine-mesh strainer. - Flavor:
Stir in lemon juice and a small amount of honey or your preferred sweetener if desired. - Add protein carefully:
Let the tea cool until it is warm rather than very hot. In a separate cup, mix the protein powder with a small amount of cool water until smooth. Slowly whisk it into the warm tea. - Serve:
Enjoy warm, or refrigerate and serve over ice.
💪 Approximate Nutrition
Using whey isolate and dividing into 2 servings:
- Protein: ~12–15 g per serving
- Calories: ~60–90 before optional honey
- Carbs: ~5–10 g
- Fat: ~0–1 g
Important note
Hibiscus tea can be a refreshing, low-calorie beverage, but it shouldn’t be presented as a proven hormone-balancing or weight-loss treatment. If you’re specifically looking for a high-protein drink, whey isolate gives substantially more complete dietary protein than collagen.
