Easy High Protein 3-Ingredient Sugar-Free Berry Whip

Ingredients You Will Need

  • One cup of frozen mixed berries or frozen strawberries
  • One scoop of vanilla whey protein powder or a plant based protein powder
  • One fourth cup of cold water or unsweetened almond milk

Step by Step Method

The first thing you need to do is grab your frozen berries from the freezer and put them into a high speed blender or a food processor. You want the berries to be completely frozen because the ice crystals are what help create the thick and creamy texture of the whip. If the berries are slightly thawed the mixture will turn into a runny juice instead of a fluffy cloud so keep them cold until the last second.

Next you will add your scoop of protein powder directly on top of the frozen fruit in the blender container. Choose a flavor that you really like because the taste of the powder will be the main flavor of the entire dish besides the berries themselves. Vanilla is usually the best choice because it complements the tartness of the berries perfectly but some people like to use berry flavored or even chocolate powder for a different twist.

Now you will pour in your small amount of liquid which can be plain cold water or any milk of your choice like almond milk or soy milk. Be very careful not to add too much liquid at the start because you want the mixture to stay thick and concentrated during the first phase of blending. If you add too much liquid you will end up with a smoothie which is still tasty but it will not have that special whipped texture we are looking for today.

Turn on your blender or food processor and pulse the ingredients until the berries are broken down into tiny pieces and the mixture looks like a thick slushy. You might need to stop the machine a few times and use a spoon to scrape down the sides to make sure every single piece of frozen fruit is being incorporated. Once the mixture is smooth and there are no large chunks of ice left you are ready for the most important part of the process.

If you are using a food processor you can just keep it running for several minutes until the mixture starts to expand and grow in size. If you used a blender you should transfer the thick berry paste into a large mixing bowl and use an electric hand mixer to whip it on high speed. As you whip the mixture you are forcing air into the protein molecules which causes the volume to double or even triple in size within just a few minutes.

Keep whipping the mixture until it looks very light and has soft peaks just like when you are making a meringue or whipped cream. You will see the color get lighter and the texture will become incredibly soft and airy to the touch. Once it has reached the desired fluffiness you can stop and transfer the whip into a large serving bowl immediately. This recipe is best enjoyed right away while it is still cold and at its maximum volume.

Why This Recipe Is Special

This recipe is special because it uses a scientific reaction between the protein powder and the air to create a huge volume of food with very few calories. Most snacks that are this big would have hundreds of grams of sugar and fat but this whip is almost entirely protein and fiber. The berries provide a huge amount of antioxidants which help fight inflammation in your body and keep your skin looking healthy and glowing. Since there is no added sugar you do not have to worry about a blood sugar crash an hour after eating which helps you maintain steady energy levels all day. It is also a very affordable recipe because frozen berries and protein powder are shelf stable items that you can keep in your kitchen for a long time. The simplicity of having only three ingredients means you can make this in less than five minutes when you are in a rush. It is a life saver for people who have busy schedules but still want to prioritize their health and wellness.
