Ingredients
- 2 cups (480 ml) whole milk
- ½ cup powdered erythritol or another granulated sugar substitute
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
Instructions
- Combine the milk and sweetener:
Pour the milk into a heavy-bottomed saucepan and add the powdered sweetener. - Heat gently:
Place over medium heat, stirring until the sweetener dissolves. Once hot, reduce the heat to low. - Reduce:
Simmer uncovered for 30–45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the milk has reduced by roughly half and becomes noticeably thicker. Avoid a rapid boil. - Add butter:
Remove from the heat and whisk in the butter until completely melted and smooth. - Cool:
Let the mixture cool to room temperature. It will thicken further as it cools. - Store:
Transfer to a clean airtight jar and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
💡 Tips
- Use powdered sweetener for a smoother texture.
- If using erythritol, the finished condensed milk may become slightly firmer or grainier when refrigerated.
- For a smoother result, blend briefly with an immersion blender after cooling.
- If you want it thicker, continue reducing for a few additional minutes.
Important: “Sugar-free” doesn’t necessarily mean calorie-free or carbohydrate-free—the nutrition depends on the sweetener and milk you use.
